How is double health insurance coverage handled for child when parents are divorced?

1)Father required by court decree to carry child on health insurance

2)Mother enrolled child on new hubby's plan through employer

Which is primary and secondary? I understand that it is usually determined by subscriber's birth date (which would make #2 primary), but is this the case when there is a divorce decree involved?

Mother says keeps getting bills not paid because ins company wants to know when insurance #1 became effective.

She states the entire problem is b/c she doesn't have in her possession an insurance card for father's insurance. Father has given copy of card to dr office.

What is the real issue here? The card or the double coverage? How is double health insurance coverage handled for child when parents are divorced? The real issue is double coverage. My guess is that the new husband's insurance takes a back seat to the biological father's insurance due to the court decree. Call the doctor's office and ask them to check the issuance date on the insurance card and then call back insurance company number 2 with the date. Save the date because insurance company number 2 will probably want to update their records on a periodic basis. BTW, the subscriber's birth date has nothing to do with which is primary. How is double health insurance coverage handled for child when parents are divorced?the primary is the one that has been in place the longest and should pay the bulk of any bills then the secondary should pick up from thereHow is double health insurance coverage handled for child when parents are divorced?I work at a health care clinic and it should be up the the clinic to verify

eeligibility I would take all documents such as the divorce decree stating the father provide insurance and your cards, and provide a copy, depending on what kind of system they should be able to bill primary ins. oh! and YOU contacting the insurance copy would make it alot easier as well, they'll ask for the same documents.

It depends on what state you live. Below is a link of the text of the law for my state. Most states have a similar, if not identical law. Call your states insurance commissioner and ask what regulation or statute addresses "group coordination of benefits".

Good luck

You all realize this was just a political show don't you? (Child Health Bill)?

I am willing to bet that the GOP held a meeting and told Bush to veto that bill and have their people permission to vote yes......

This way the republicans can publically distance themselves from a president with horrible ratings for the next election.

Bush can't run again, thankfully his career is over....the rest of the republicans can show how bipartisan and caring they are...and no one even talked about the money numbers that popped up over the weekend regarding Iraq...perfect timing (way to use a news cycle!!!!) We were all too focused on the veto.

and we Democrats helped!

Look at the numbers....$ Veto 35 Billion for American children and spend $190 Billion on Iraq and ask for $189 Billion for 2008 (associated press has the numbers)

They baited and switched (like how now we are in Iraq for freedom and terrorism when we really went for weapons that were never there)....and we all went for it!You all realize this was just a political show don't you? (Child Health Bill)? That makes perfect sense...sneaky b-tards aren't they? You all realize this was just a political show don't you? (Child Health Bill)?
No way that will happen. Bush's veto will stand and the Republicans will have to carry this albatross...you are giving them way too much credit. You all realize this was just a political show don't you? (Child Health Bill)?Money spent on Iraq serves the long-term goal of keeping those same children from getting nuked by terrorists.

Any government-funded healthcare (or any government program) is just one more hook government sticks in you to control your life.

Can you not see that?
Dems should vote no to any new funding. Otherwise they're talking out the side of their mouths. "We don't support this nasty war!" to their Liberal tree-hugging base, :we realize this war is needed" to themselves.

Why don't they? Really? You all realize this was just a political show don't you? (Child Health Bill)?good for you...it is time everyone stood up and said no to Busch and his form of government and someone should also speak to the notion of how much we are spending around the world on health care for other countries children and failing to provide for our ownYou all realize this was just a political show don't you? (Child Health Bill)?
Get your facts straight. The bill was vetoed due to a glaring hole within it which allowed for those making up to 82k to benefit thus taking away from the very poorest kids.

Yes IT WAS political BUT on the part of the DEMOCRATS!

+
If the Republicans wanted to show how they are not like Bush then they at the very least should have restored Habius Corpus! ( See: http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionar鈥?/a> Until our Constitution, Civil and Constitutional rights are restored, they are just like Bush! You all realize this was just a political show don't you? (Child Health Bill)?
Isn't is always nothing more than a political show?

Very good points though.

As far as I am concerned Democrats and Republicans are all the same. They are all out to sell out the US to the highest bidder!
This issue was probably the first I have agreed with Bush on in seven years. I have lived in 2 States that have the insurance program involved in this legislation. It is a sham as far as who is covered. Don't believe that it covers only low income children. It covers ANY child. The thing I hated the most though, was the fact that it was going to be subsidized by a tobacco tax of $.61 per pack. Spread the cost to everyone and I MIGHT agree a bit more.
this appears to be a bad bill, congress seems to make a mockery of any attempt to come up with logical financially stable plans that will not make government the heath watchdog over the people. states should be the ones who monitor these plans for their people as they know their needs the best. what is wrong with this bill...do some deeper digging and you might have your eyes opened as to the long term affects on us all.
Yes, it was part of the Democrat's plan to get the middle class on welfare. Poor children have medicaid. This bill provided free healthcare to children of parents making 82 grand a year. If people cannot afford their children they should not be having them. I agreed with the veto.

PS - weapons were there - don't you think with all that warning that Saddam was smart enough to move them. And soldiers have found where they were stashed. You might want to consider a different news source.
Someone is always behind the presidency. He is just a figure head. Big business only wants consumer money, they could care less about who it hurts. That's what this is all about.

I work with a child who is autistic, he urinates all over, can the smell of urine effect our health?

I smell urine for 10 hours a day, it is soooo strong. I would like to confront my boss with proof that the smell of urine can effect us. I have been sick since I started there and I am sure it is from smelling urine. I have not been successful on the web finding the effects of urine and our health. Please Help...I work with a child who is autistic, he urinates all over, can the smell of urine effect our health? You have not been sucessful because it is not harmful- the fumes anyway. If it were, lab technicians in hospital labs would have died long ago. Urine smells because of the small amount of ammonia compounds present. Urine is also sterile for the first 24 hours or so after it leaves the body. If he is urinating on carpet, that would of course hold the smell and become unpleasant- but not hazardous unless you were getting it into your mouth for some reason.

People who begin working around children often notice they are sicker at the beginning. This is because children are learning their sanitary habits, but have not perfected them. They tend to spread bacteria over a wider area, because they do not always cover to cough or sneeze, or wash up after the toilet. You can combat this risk by scrupulous hand cleanliness habits of your own, and waiting for your own immune system to meet the new challenge. This is the only option you have, beyond a career change. It doesn't sound as if you are very happy with this one.I work with a child who is autistic, he urinates all over, can the smell of urine effect our health?
It would seem to me you need to find another career. If you are sick, then get out.I work with a child who is autistic, he urinates all over, can the smell of urine effect our health?Dont know about the smell, but urine can carry many airborne bacteria which is bad for you're health.

So if you can smell it, odds are, you are breathing in the bacteria.

I'm a carer myself, and I still hold my breath when changing the pad, of an incontinent person, that has been on the whole night!
If you sniff glue you can kill some brain cells but no smelling urine is not harmful. It is better to smell urine than to smell car exhaust outside. Also you can drink urin you know that is what the tell people stranded by oceans. There is more water and less salt in urine so you can drink it up. Smelling it is not harmful even though it is unpleasant.I work with a child who is autistic, he urinates all over, can the smell of urine effect our health?Technically, urine is sterile when it comes out of the body. I don't think the smell can really harm you. BUT, it's not a pleasant smell and the mental connotations can probably make you feel physically ill. Smelling something you think is gross all day can make you feel sick. If you can't handle it, you probably shouldn't be working there. This child can't help it, and he needs people who can deal with the smell of urine.I work with a child who is autistic, he urinates all over, can the smell of urine effect our health?
It shouldn't cause any health problems. Urine is sterile when it exits the body.
Well, there is plenty of urine all over public restrooms, but you don't b*tch about that. Smelling urine can't hurt you.

It seems pretty clear to me you are in the wrong profession. Someone working with an autistic child should actually have some compassion for other human beings.I work with a child who is autistic, he urinates all over, can the smell of urine effect our health?
No..,doesnt the child wear diapers? If you cannot or do not have the stomach to deal with the profession you are in,I suggest you make a career change. If urine effected peoples health then I guess pediatricians and geriatric physicans and nurses would be sick.Get a grip.

Why does employee+spouse cost so much more than employee or even employee+children health insurance coverage?

I'm enrolling in the health plan at my new job and my cost per pay period is 10x higher if I elect employee+spouse over just employee coverage and 5x higher than employee+children. Just curious if anyone in the know (or in the biz - ha!) can explain why adding one person adds so much to the price and furthermore, why one spouse costs more than (theoretically) a whole slew of children. Why does employee+spouse cost so much more than employee or even employee+children health insurance coverage?Because the employer kicks in the most money, towards just the employee's premium.

It's not that the price is actually HIGHER, it's that the employer pays less, towards the total.

And you can't add a whole slew of children - once you add more than one, you get "family" coverage, regardless of how many you add. When you add a spouse, you drastically increase the chances of maternity claims. Why does employee+spouse cost so much more than employee or even employee+children health insurance coverage?1) The employer pays most of the cost for the employee, and might also do so for the kids. You pay the entire cost for the spouse.

2) Employees who want employee plus spouse coverage are usually ones whose children are already grown and on their own insurance. These employees and their spouses tend to be older and in worse health. (Young employees who do not yet have children are usually either not married or married to someone employed with separate health insurance.)Why does employee+spouse cost so much more than employee or even employee+children health insurance coverage?Your employer pays part or most of your expense, when you add your family, they pay the full cost.

  • During pregnancy, how much does the mother's diet effect the child's future health?

My mother, while she was pregnant with me, consumed a huge amount of sugar. The doctor actually told her to stop because it was messing up some levels in her blood. Later on, when I was 8 years old my doctor thought I was hypoglycemic. I would shake if I didn't eat as soon as I was hungry. I've never in my life been able to feel true health and energy. I have more energy than I've ever had in my life, but if I have a full active day... I am exhausted for the next 3 days. I cannot handle any processed ingredients whatsoever. I have to eat a strict diet of raw fruits, raw veggies, good oils (like olive oil)... I've even become gluten-intolerant (although I eat gluten in the morning). Being I'm only 22 years old... I don't understand why my body is so sick (which contains TONS of symptoms like horrible allergies, intestinal issues, etc). I ate like the average american child growing up. Although, I did find a tape of my parents letting me drink coke and eat pizza at 2 years old.During pregnancy, how much does the mother's diet effect the child's future health?Let me put it this way ~~~ if a mother does cocaine during her PG the baby will be born addicted but the baby can outgrow the addiction and become clean.

Some or a lot of cell damage is done to the infant due to what mother put in her system and the child is stuck with that damage for life.

Common sense says that is true for anything the mother ingests.

Follow your doctors orders or pay the price.During pregnancy, how much does the mother's diet effect the child's future health?
my mom ate french fries when she was pregnet so all i eat is them so.During pregnancy, how much does the mother's diet effect the child's future health?A mothers diet effects the baby a lot. My sis found out she was pregnant and stopped drinking and smocking. She now eats only the healthiest for her baby. LOL

-girlz4GodDuring pregnancy, how much does the mother's diet effect the child's future health?
the eating the pizza and coke thing don't worry about it. what u need to do is go to the docter ur seeing for ur pregnancy and ask him/her if its alright to eat this or that or have a strict diet while im pregnant. ur docter will know the most on what u should have and what the baby needsDuring pregnancy, how much does the mother's diet effect the child's future health? If eating pizza and coke as a baby caused many long term problems then half the children on the planet would be messed up.You say you are gluten intolerant but you eat gluten in the mornings, why? If you know this stuff doesn't agree with you,but you still eat it,then that is most likely your problem. The thing you mentioned about your mother eating peanut stuff when pregnant could have affected your tendency to allergies, but a peanut allergy would have affected you seriously before now.Try eating no gluten at all,if that doesn't help,go back to your doctor, maybe more food allergies are showing.

Daughter over 18, still using child support health insurance card-what do we do?

My husband had to pay for health insurance for his daughter as part of his court ordered child support. The child turned 18 two years ago and my husband cancelled the insurance coverage. His daughter has still been using the cancelled health insurance card for the past 2 years. She is not in college/school. My husband just found out that she has been using his name as "the responsible bill-paying party" when she would go to different docs. He now has alot of her current med bills on his credit report. What can we do about this?Daughter over 18, still using child support health insurance card-what do we do?He can sue her, but technically, unless your step daughter was a minor, SHE is the responsible party. In fact, if she was a minor, and his ex wife took her to the doctor the ex would be the responsible party. The responsible party is the one that consents to treatment, not the insurance card holder. Even if the "insurance" is in his name. I would be calling theses doctors first and pitching a ***** and I would tell them that I will be reporting them to the Better business Bureau for all the inaccurate billing(I would be nice at first, but if I didn't see them trying to straighten this out I would start to get nasty). For one, she is over 18, so he can't be held responsible, and two they should have been calling the insurance company BEFORE EVERY appointment to insure she still had coverage. If they want their money tell them to go after HER.Daughter over 18, still using child support health insurance card-what do we do?
Sue her in small claims court.... Sounds like she doesn't respect him very much.Daughter over 18, still using child support health insurance card-what do we do?sue her
She is over 18 so he can probably press charges (although I doubt he would do that). The only other thing is to sit down with her and make her understand that she is responsible for her medical bills. She is an adult and is not in school so she needs to handle this on her own.Daughter over 18, still using child support health insurance card-what do we do?How could the card be used when it was canceled? The providers CHECK the VALIDITY of the card when it is presented. Plus insurance cards have expiration dates at year's end. Is there something else to this story?Daughter over 18, still using child support health insurance card-what do we do?
You contact the insurance company and they will sue the daughter for the money. In fact, they may even lodge a complaint and levy fraud charges through the state.

It isn't hard to figure out. It's the insurance company's problem, not yours. The coverage was cancelled and it's the responsibility of the carrier to catch these things and deny payment.
Sounds like all you'd have to do is show proof from your husbands employer that he cancelled her from the policy.Daughter over 18, still using child support health insurance card-what do we do?
First off, don't listen to "married mommy" and sue the poor kid just for trying to get herself decent medical care! Call the docs and explain the misunderstanding. They will most likel settle for pennies on the dollar and/or waive much of the cost as they would rather get something from Dad then nothing from the daughter.
You should gather all the medical bills and contact Charity Care. If she's not working or making very little, they should pick it up. An interesting thing about medical bills though, is that it doesn't appear on your credit report. So somebody's telling a fib.

*ADD* Well color me stupid. I assumed it was so, because I owed about $30K in medical bills and they've never appeared on my credit report. My Charity Care answer still stands though.
Take her to Judge Judy's court. I'd love to watch that!
1st he needs to contact the daughter and tell her she is no longer covered as of her 18th birthday and he will be sending her these bills, next he needs to contact the insurance company and let them know what is going on, 3rd if the statements or bills have the Dr's or provider names on them he needs to call each of them and let them know the situation and have his name and insurance removed from her file. This is considered freud, make sure he lets his daughter know she is responsible for these bills. Next he can dispute the bills with the credit reporting agencies simply by writing to them, explaining the situation naming each providor and they will investigate. The provider technically should have had his signature for the "responsible bill paying party" not just her word which is why he needs to call each of them and tell them they need to send the bills to his daughter in her name.
call each and every doctor, and take his name off, and since she is 18, she is responsible. he never signed anything, he cannot be held accountable.
If she is not covered under his insurance the card is useless. Has he talked to HIS daughter. If she is going to the Dr. and is sick maybe he can help her. IT IS HIS DAUGHTER. When your child turns 18 does not mean they still don't need your help. I mean has anyone told her the card is no good?
The insurance company should deny the claim and then she would be responsible for her own bills. Something isn't right in your story. Without valid insurance, they would bill her not him. It takes a phone call to the Doctor and the Insurance Company to clear it up. Someone is not being honest.
Doesn't matter she can use the insurance until she is 22
contact the credit report agency and tell them that she is over 18 and that she is responsible ..dispute it.. I had one try to get me to pay also.. they will try ..but you don't have.. call the 3 major one... equifax..trans union and i forget the other one.. he will have to contact them..but it can be taken off..and he need to get that card back from her ..asap..
You will want to talk to your husband's daughter and get a full list of all of the different bills that she has claimed your husband as the "responsible bill paying party" (or at the very least just find out which doctor's or clinics she has gone to and then contact them directly for an itemized list). This way you will not be hit with any additional surprises on your credit report for bills that do not yet show up on the credit report but will in the future.

Now that you have the itemized list of what you owe then your best bet (outside of taking your daughter to small claims court) is to contact each of the medical providers directly and work out a settlement.

After this is done then you will want to make sure that your daughter does the responsible thing and purchases her own health insurance policy. Since she is young she will be able to find a fairly cheap individual health insurance policy on the open market.

Here is some more information on finding an individual health insurance plan and also some information on finding student health insurance if she is a student:
As horrible as it sounds, sue her for fraud %26amp; damages. Really there isn't anything much else you can do. You can also go through the painstaking process of contacting every single one of these doc offices that appear on the credit report %26amp; make them prove that your husband "SIGNED" something saying he was the responsible party. If they can't produce it, they have no case %26amp; have to drop the collection. I know you don't want to wait until THEY take you to court over the unpaid med bills, as that would be super expensive. If you can try %26amp; prove to them they are wrong before it gets that far you will save money. It will be a big hassle, but that's really all you can do. They don't want to go to court any more than you do, so they will try to get you to "settle" out of court to pay these things, but when you don't budge %26amp; refuse to pay them %26amp; insist that they PROVE you are the liable party, they will probably give up %26amp; admit that you are right %26amp; then they MUST remove it from your credit report. The other option that may or may not work is to open a dispute with each credit reporting agency over everyone of those bills. Then the credit reporting agencies will contact them %26amp; demand proof, when they can't provide it, it will have to be removed. Like I said, a lot of work, but it can be done. I had a similar problem %26amp; I use similar loosely here. My husband filed bankruptcy about 3 years before we got married %26amp; recently we've had all kinds of bill collectors contacting us %26amp; threating court, putting things onto his credit report from years ago, etc etc. We had to mail a complete copy of his bankruptcy to everyone of those places before they would stop to prove they couldn't hassle us. Everything stoped %26amp; was removed from his credit report promptly as we could have sued them for harrassment. But it took months to straighten out. I know there's a big difference there, but even in your case it will take lots of time %26amp; lots of effort to fix.
