I've been told that some children suffer from hyperphotosensitivity later in life as a result, is that true?Does getting scarlet fever as a child lead to any long-term health problems?Nearly 40 years ago when I was a medical student much time was spent studying diseases like this. The 2 potential problems were heart and kidney disease, both caused by the deposition of immune complexes.
Soon after I qualified these complications had become rarities, in small part because penicillin is inappropriately given to everyone with a sore throat, but more because of general improvements in health and hygiene.
I only ever say these complications once in the late 70s when I was doing paediatrics. I still see 3-4 Scarlet fever cases a year though.Does getting scarlet fever as a child lead to any long-term health problems?
I had scarlet fever. I'm all good now.Does getting scarlet fever as a child lead to any long-term health problems?im no doctor but my daughter had it and i was informed of no future problems at all........
My husband's aunt is mentally retarded. Once I asked what caused it and my mother in law said she had scarlet fever as a child. After researching it, all scarlet fever is is strep throat with a rash. How on earth would it cause mental retardation? I think she was born retarded but back then they didn't know as much as they do now. I mean, I could be totally wrong, but if hyperhotosensitivity is the worst result from scarlet fever, then I wouldn't be too worried.Does getting scarlet fever as a child lead to any long-term health problems?Cardiac problems.Does getting scarlet fever as a child lead to any long-term health problems?
My son also had Scarlet Fever a few years ago. It in itself does not pose any risks, but it is if it turns into Rheumatic Fever when problems can occur, such as heart failure. At least that's how the doctor in the ER explained it to us. My mother in law had Rheumatic Fever as a child and loss her hearing from it. Scarlet Fever is just a strain of strep w/certain toxins that some kids react to and get a rash.
Hope that helps :)
I had scarlet fever when I was a child, they are now linking it to rheumatic conditions later in life, which unfortunately, I now have. I also had Asian Flu, which is also linked to joint problems.Does getting scarlet fever as a child lead to any long-term health problems?
There can be many sequelae of scarlet fever including cardiac problems and kidney disease. I have never heard of it leading to photosensitivity or indeed mental retardation.
I had scarlet fever as a baby and haven't suffered from photosensitivity (or anything else) as a result.
dunno
