Adding a child to health ins, is this scenario possible?

My child's father was paying $50 per week, $200 per month to insure himself. He recently had to add a child to his policy and claims he is paying $100 per week for just the child. So he is claiming he now pays a grand total of $600 per month for health insurance on just himself and one child, when he only nets about $450 per week. The child he added has no diseases or health problems. Is it even possible that this could be true that he has to pay this much?Adding a child to health ins, is this scenario possible?Yes, it is absolutely possible, if not likely.

That is expensive health insurance, but it often is!

Very often depedents cost a lot more than the primary insurer to have on the policy. If you have doubts, ask to see his paycheck etc. Ask for proof. But that sounds absolutely possible to me. Not much different then what it was like when I was in grad school. The primary person was cheap, to add someone onto the policy was 3-4 times the amount.

We had great health insurance for our family of 4 last year at a good price. $350 a month. Now we pay less, just $200 a month, but it SUCKS. :( It doesn't really cover anything unless we get cancer or something!

Most of the insurance costs are like this - primary, primary + spouse, primary + dependent, or primary + family. Primary + dependent is usually good for more than one child. There may be a limit to the number of dependents, but it is usually more than 1 (between 2 and 5 is common).Adding a child to health ins, is this scenario possible?Yes - especially if he is getting his insurance through work. His employer might be paying part of his premium but they will not cover your family, too. That comes out of your pocket to be added to the policy.

It doesn't matter whether or not the child has health issues - they do not prequalify or set preexisting conditions for a newborn child.

ETA - if he is on a family plan now (not an individual plan + 1) adding another child might not increase his premiums - family is family whether it is 1 child or more . . . at least that is how it is with my insurance.Adding a child to health ins, is this scenario possible?Yes, that amount is what you can pay for a family plan. He can add additional dependents without additional charges. If he has an individual plan for the 14 year old, that is pretty hefty. My cousin pays $98 per MONTH for his 11 year old with an individual plan through Blue Cross. That was because the family plan through his work would have been $400 per month.Adding a child to health ins, is this scenario possible?
Yup. Health care is through the roof! I pay $115.00 PER WEEK for me and my son.
