For the most part schizophrenia is thought to be caused by the environment of the child growing up in, so if your mother did not do weird things with confusing messages and responses, then you probably are not as much at risk . Or if you had enough other healthy influence and could tell the difference, as often children are able to.

Some believe there is a genetic component, but not as much as the early environment of the child.

If you feel and seem sane , and can relate to others well, then you probably will be ok.

If you need a good hormone check and balance then call a compounding pharmacy in your area and ask for a list of doctors that do that, since horonones can also be a contributing cause of this and other so called mental illnesses.

It is it not absolutely certain by any means that you would develop schizophrenia. However, yes, research does indicate a very heavy genetic influence in the development of the condition, and the risk seems to be increased significantly if there is a history of mental illness in your family. However, I stress again the risk is increased - it doesn't have to happen. So, could you develop schizophrenia? Yes. Will you - that's by no means certain. Treat yourself well, and keep in touch with the doctor if you are worried.

My mother is a schizophrenic as well, because of a car accident. She couldn't properly withhold rewards, to bring about responsibility, but I also think this was because of bad education, and parenting of herself as well. My grandmother was. The doctor told us if we didn't develop it before we were 30 then we probably wouldn't have it. I'd see your doctor and see what he has to say about it.
