at 9 years of agethrough prolonged sickness like cancer? What could be the possible consequences on the mental health of a child who looses his/her mother..?The effects may vary from depression to denial. What this child will surely need is love. Treat him/her as normally as possible have a regular routine. Always make time to be available to talk about anything and everything but most importantly be there. Do not simply stop talking about their mum remember the good times, birthday's and holidays.
To do other wise will do more harm than good. Let them know what ever they are feeling is normal and that you'll figure it out together. What could be the possible consequences on the mental health of a child who looses his/her mother..?Detrimental if the child doesn't get a chance to grieve and cope with their feelings in a healthy way. Nobody ever recovers from such a huge loss, but it doesn't have to ruin a life. Grieving is complex and it's important that the child has lots of support and reassurance. What could be the possible consequences on the mental health of a child who looses his/her mother..?The behaviour of loved ones and friends have more affect on the child than the death itself......if the illness and death is talked about openly, without guilt, distress or avoided, a child copes quite well......they are very adaptable...
Every one deals with death differently, so one cannot assume anything, support and guidance is paramount.
My nephew"s dad died (my brother) of skin cancer, he hit a low period after his dads death, he missed him so much, he is now 11, and suffers no negative feelings about his dads death.
