Here in Texas, thanks to the Health Reform Act, no insurance company will sell a "child only" policy.
And actually, it's not just Texas - it's throughout the entire USA.
How's that hope-y change-y thing working for ya??Is it possible to get a health insurance policy for just a child in Texas in 2011?
Thanks for the info, everyone. It turns out that you can't get a standard policy for a child, but you can get a temporary policy. It won't cover pre-existing conditions, and they expire after 6 or 12 months, but it is definitely an option for people who aren't eligible for CHIP. Whew! :-)

Is it possible to get a health insurance policy for just a child in Texas in 2011?Your agent was not mistaken. You have two, and only two options:
a. Pay over $500 per month to have your child covered through your job.
b. Pay whatever it costs to purchase a policy for both you and one of your child's parents (either you or the other parent).
You cannot get the insurance for the child from one source and the insurance for yourself from another. Is it possible to get a health insurance policy for just a child in Texas in 2011?
Your child is covered under your health policy through your work. Why do you want to pay for a separate policy? Who told you that your child was not covered by your group health plan? You should call your state insurance board and make sure that is correct. I dont know if the employer group plan can drop a child from their policy but I guess it is possible. If you qualify, there is S-Chip for low income children. Is it possible to get a health insurance policy for just a child in Texas in 2011?I don't know if the employer group plan can drop a child from their policy but I guess it is possible.
